Session review, period 6

Five log files were submitted, representing five different conversations from September 17 to 20; all five were analyzed.

For a quick read: what to try differently.

First. On September 20, a check against your own checklist found two substantive discrepancies (the “before” and “after” captions on dashboard screenshots were reversed, and the trace did not confirm a repeated request for an already-set value) and one cosmetic issue. Your response was “fix item 5,” the cosmetic issue. The agent reminded you of the first two items twice more, most recently during the final report pass, and the session ended with them unresolved. Try this: manage the discrepancies from a check as a defect list after a regression run; each item must have a status of “fixed,” “rechecked with a run,” or “dismissed because,” and do not move to the next task until every item has a status. Another option: add the repeated-request case as a line in the simulator's message file, so every run rechecks it instead of requiring a separate search for the trace.

Second. On September 19 and 20, tunnel and certificate errors were pasted into the chat as bare terminal output: two outputs in a row on the 19th, seven pastes without a word over an hour and a half on the 20th. The agent decided what mattered in each. Where you added a sentence (“There is a response in the editor, but not in the production chat”), the agent immediately used it to find the cause. Try this: from the second output of the same failure onward, add one sentence about what you think broke and what has already been ruled out, and ask the agent to separate cause from consequence before the next change. Another option: if the failure persists even after changing the hypothesis, put what you have learned into a short brief and continue in a clean session, returning only the result to the build session.

Next, the eight criteria and the evidence behind them.

Task framing. Consistent, with one exception. Tasks are specific from the first turn, for example “Change nothing until I confirm. Invent nothing, take everything from the project. Return a diff” and “Do not hardcode the key or address”; the exception is September 20: the simulator task retained an unfilled message template and a webhook contract for a different workflow variant from the one in the repository. The agent managed to build and run a version for it before you corrected the contract yourself.

Result verification. There is something to change here: the first point above. The checks themselves were performed by you against your own items: on September 18, you checked the builder's result against three named criteria (“Check these points”); on the 20th, you noticed yourself from the run output that five of nine messages had been sent.

Trust calibration. Consistent here. On September 19, your answer to the warning about an unauthenticated server behind a public tunnel included a reason: “this is a training project, there is no real data”; on the 17th, you chose a one-time tunnel for testing and shut it down afterward.

Context management. Consistent, with one exception. A new part of the assignment started in a new session, compactions were manual, and phase requirements were restated afterward (“Let's go step by step: I did Step 1, but how do I capture a trace?”); the exception is September 19: tunnel and certificate debugging took place in the workflow-building context, which ended at 262 thousand tokens without compaction, an issue already discussed in previous reviews.

Work decomposition. Consistent here. Work followed the assignment's steps, with a diff before application (“Let's do step 5. Diff first”); workflow JSON assembly went to a narrowly scoped subagent, and you checked its result before moving on.

Decision ownership. Consistent, with one exception. You ask mechanics questions before deciding (“If null, what are the consequences?”, “Why is it in switch; what is the Stop list node for then?”), and you corrected the simulator contract with a fact the agent could not infer. The exception is the same as in the first point above: the agent's direct question about two discrepancies remained unanswered.

Changing approach after failure. There is something to change here: the second point above. After three different tunnel failures on September 19, you changed tools (“let's try cloudflared instead of ngrok”), rather than repeating the same attempt.

Reversibility. Consistent, with one exception. Commits occur at step boundaries (“Everything works. Make a commit and let's continue”), and you discarded the unsuccessful workflow version entirely on September 19: “Okay, let's rebuild from scratch.” The exception is September 17: leftover data from the previous day's test run entered the step's commit in a data file, and the agent mentioned it only after you had authorized the commit.
